Scotch Whisky Experience Disabled Facilities
The Scotch Whisky Experience is a winner of the Scottish Tourist Board Thistle Awards in the "Tourism For All" category. This recognised our excellent practice in facilities for disabled and younger visitors.
Access
We have full wheelchair access throughout the attraction. Entrances to the Box Office and Shop are through fully automatic doors. A lift takes guests to each level. The Building is spacious with plenty of room in all Tour Areas, Shop, Bar & Restaurant for manoeuvring wheelchairs.
Wheelchairs access the Barrel Ride behind the cars. Guests who can leave the chair can access the Barrels, which can be held stationary.
Elevator
We have an elevator that provides access to every level of the building.
Facilities
We have a disabled visitor WC with all the necessary approved facilities and access.
Visually Impaired Visitors
Many areas of the Tour concentrate on the senses of smell and sound. There are background sounds and smells throughout the Tour and samples of different whiskies to be nosed. As you move through our bonded warehouse the wafting aroma of maturing whisky will lead you to the next area.
The Barrel Ride's commentary is enhanced with background sound effects and aromas relating to the sets.
Deaf and Hard of Hearing Visitors
The entire Tour backed up with strong visuals. The three Tour areas use a combination of films and presentations by our Tour Guides backed up with images. The Barrel ride takes guests past a series of sets depicting the history of Whisky enhanced with accompanying aromas.
Scripts of the Tour are also available along with our audio guide comprising volume-adjustable headsets for the hard of hearing.
